![]() Keep in mind, not all G4’s can boot OS 9 (iMacs faster than 800MHz, iBooks faster than 900MHz, PowerBooks faster than 800MHz, and PowerMac G4 FW800’s, among others). ![]() Some people require OS 9 for “Classic” applications or games, or if you’re like me, you may like stepping back in time and poking around this old operating system just for the heck of it. In spite of this, many people swear by it to this day. Mac OS 9 is (obviously) dead in terms of support. Also, you can always install Leopard via FireWire Target Disk Mode from a supported PowerPC Macintosh. If you want to give installing Leopard a shot, check out the program Leopard Assist to bypass the requirement. ![]() We believe a Dual 400MHz G4 is more than capable of running Leopard (with a proper video card and at least 1GB of RAM). Many people, like myself, disagree with this requirement. ![]() Technically, only G4’s running at 866MHz or faster are allowed install Leopard. Obviously, Leopard is the best choice in terms of software support, but it’s much more of a resource hog due to the added graphic effects it introduced. ![]()
